A little bit about the history of P & D Custom Bikes

The first 50 years...

P & D Custom Bikes has an enviable reputation for being the best custom bike building workshop in the UK – rightfully earnt through decades of skill and dedication. Originally founded as Kustom Corner, P & D was formed by Dave Batchelar in the 1970s and soon gained the reputation as the go-to workshop for custom made motorcycles. Throughout the 70s and 80s, the business evolved with Dave eventually moving the business from Alpha Road in Crawley to Slinfold, near Horsham.

Skip forward to the new millenium where the business was sold to Chris Nichols leaving Dave to concentrate on the parts of the job he loves. Chris made sure P & D Custom Bikes kept its rightful place on the map by project managing and promoting Dave's amazing skills with the creation of showbikes – gaining much acclaim at UK and European bike shows. It was also during this period that the P & D Custom Bike Shows evolved at Slinfold Cricket Ground in West Sussex.

Following Chris' retirement, the business was sold to Jon Strutt who takes P & D Custom Bikes into its next chapter. Jon has a great motorcycle background and will continue the legacy of P & D with no let-up from Dave Batchelar who is very happy to continue offering his vast array of exceptional engineering, fabrication and upholstery skills.

Many trends have come and gone over the last 50 years but P & D stays true to its ethos – to design and build the very best custom bikes, provide custom solutions to fit customers' requirements and to undertake the highest quality motorcycle upholstery. A great deal of international awards have been won over the years with some simply stunning show bikes beating many rivals to the top spot.

P & D Custom Bikes has rightfully gained itself something of a legendary status and has turned out countless motorcycles and custom work across a wide range of motorcycle brands and projects – not just Harley-Davidsons! You only have to look at the countless magazine features dating back decades to realise the achievements in custom bike building.

Here's to the first 50 years - there wouldn't be a book big enough to fit in the stories that could be told but we're looking forward to making many more and producing more stunning work for our loyal customers.
